Used To Be New

Lyrics

There's a picture of you on my nightstand that's covered in dust
There's a little black dress in the closet that you haven't put on in months
Now a date night's not what they looked like when we were wild and head over heels
Everything's a little more real

Growing up and getting older
We might not shine but we're still golden

We used to be new
Then we got used to everything being a little to easy
Turns out what we needed was a few bumps in the road
Have some living to do
Some things to go through
For this lifetime that we're making
Together we make the most of changing
Cuz we get better as we go
Even better than when we used to be new

There's a pile of mail on the bar cart where there used to be wine
We're sharing an address, we bought a new mattress, I'm cutting the grass all the damn time
It's not as romantic, but we're making plans that are bigger than any we've ever made
There's a little moon on the way

We used to be new
Then we got used to everything being a little to easy
Turns out what we needed was a few bumps in the road
Have some living to do
Some things to go through
For this lifetime that we're making
Together we make the most of changing
Cuz we get better as we go
Even better than when we used to be new

When I'm reminiscing sometimes I miss that other life
But the past is the past and no matter where we're at it's you and my

We used to be new
Then we got used to everything being a little to easy
Turns out what we needed was a few bumps in the road
Have some living to do
Some things to go through
For this lifetime that we're making
Together we make the most of changing
Cuz we get better as we go
Even better than
I still remember
Aww we used to be new
We used to be new
